Scope and content
The sepia-coloured image is a reproduction of the famous painting by Raffaello of the Augustinian St Nicholas of Tolentino. Today this painting is found at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It shows the saint standing in an archway, with the devil at his feet, flanked by three angels on his right hand side and the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Augustine on his right. Above him God the Father is seen with a crown in His hand, surrounded by the heads of angels. This image is a memento of the solemn inauguration of the Church dedicated to St Nicholas in Tarxien.
